What Do You COWL It?

So, recently I've been making these cowls, and as I stitch away during a free period, meetings, or even at chapel, everyone asks what I'm making, as they often do. But when I try to describe a cowl, they give me the sideways eye and say, "Oh, like a scarf?"What is it that people don't remember what a cowl is? Is it a prerequisite to have been an educated shopper in the eighties to know this? I recently did an impromptu poll of people to find out their opinions of the throwback accessory, and one woman said that they make you look like a pinhead on a pear. I'm not sure about that, and I already have one leg up on the pear-shape...and I'm still not so sure how she came to that conclusion.

So, if you don't have any qualms with this pseudo-scarf, nor are you paranoid about being a pinhead, check these out in my Etsy shop, along with some other baubles for your accessorizing pleasure.

Ooooh what loveliness.

To be honest, I have never worn a cowl, I have had lots of scarves in my day, but no cowls. I guess in Australia there was never a need to wear a cowl, and then when I moved out to the US, I just saw lots of scarves. Cowls are a relatively new concept to me.

I got cha, Sissy. Your younger sister who completely missed shopping in the eighties knows what a cowl is. But that's because I like to grow my vocabulary, not because I'm at all fashion forward ;)
And I really really want your newest brown cowl!! Christmas...? :D

I think they are lovely! (And I LOVE your hair!)

I own 2 cowls--and I love them, though I didn't know that was the name of them until last year. In fact, my very first knitting project when I was 8 was a cowl!! Though I must say, it definitely is not as cute as yours!
