And the Winner Is...

Congratulations to LENORENEVERMORE, the winner of my 100th post giveaway! She'll be getting this sweet little harmonica pendant in the mail asap. This girl has a fabulous blog full of all things eclectic, vintage-nouveau, and ephemeral. Do check her out and fall in love with her magical blog.

And if you weren't the lucky one, never fear! My Etsy shop is stocked full of new ones for you to serenade a small audience.

And just for fun, this little verse from Modest Mouse always makes me think this little comedian should include a harmonica in his act:

Tiny curtains open and we heard the tiny clap of little hands
A tiny man would tell a little joke and get a tiny laugh from all the folks
Sitting drifting around in bubbles and thinking it was us that carried them
When we finally got it figured out that we had truly missed the boat

Old Photo/ New {Free} Music

I found this great photo manipulation site called Badumatsu Koshashin Generator via Miss Print. It makes your photos look 100 years old! Although I think it could be a great newspaper repro also.It think it looks fantastic for old architecture, like this pier, and probably works best with photos that have a full range of value. But you'll have to test run some...I did a few that work great as color pics, and they looked terrible! Then here's that haircut pic I took the other day with my camera phone and I think it looks great!
And if you're in the market for FREE music, download this live album by the Civil Wars, featuring my girl Joy Williams and her buddy, John Paul White. It's moody and low and excellent. A very good choice.
For more Free stuff, be sure to enter my giveaway by July 8th at midnight. Comment here.

Lindsey Paints a Surfboard

The other day in San Clemente, we were super early to a shindig, so we stopped at local flip flop heaven, Rainbow Sandals, and then found a great little surf shop that looked like it was having a sale. Sure enough....

We found a 6'5" shortboard for $35 and left with it and a promise from Jon to teach me to surf. Oh, and a promise from me to paint it.So in researching designs and methods, I found Drew Brohpy, one amazing hound dog of surf art--this guy seriously lives a dream job. He hosts several tutorials and paints his skate/surf boards, helmets, and sculptures with Uni-Posca waterbased paint pens and seals them with a spray sealant. I quickly grabbed me up some pens (Brohpy sells them on his site, but we couldn't wait for shipment), and we were ready to go.I did a little drawing first, but Jon wasn't crazy about the turtle, so I left it out. The whole thing took me about 3.5 hours, and those pens are NOT cheap. This was probably a $100 project, when all is said and done. The pens are difficult to blend, and I had a tough time drawing on existing paint layers, drawing right on the board was much smoother.
I felt like a surfer chick (or at least a poser), but it would have been way cooler if I did this at the beach. As it was, it was boilin' hot outside so I had to bring the excitement in.

It was pretty great to paint something a little different than my usual, and I'm quite pleased with it. Now we just have to seal it and we're ready for some waves. What is the coolest thing you've ever painted on? Oh, and any ideas for the back?

And if you haven't entered my giveaway, do so here before Wednesday, July 8th!

Occasion for Celebration: It's Giveaway Time

One Hundred Posts!

I remember reading other blogs' century milestone and wondering how long it took them to achieve such a feat. But here I am, and to celebrate I'd like to sponsor a giveaway to say thank you to all my wonderful, loyal, creative, kind, friendly readers. So I've chosen this Mini Harmonica Pendant that can play tiny tunes, attract tiny birds, and accompany tiny s'more making by a tiny fire. The story goes that I found these harmonicas on Etsy for exorbitant prices, and one day I found one for much cheaper. It has become a novelty, as you remember here, and people loved mine so much I decided to offer them in my own Etsy shop for a much lower price (I'm not about nickel and diming people, I just want everyone to have one).

Now's your chance to win one, and know that I love all of you and am so appreciative of your readership, wishing I could be friends with each one of you, whether in Italy, New York, or Illinois.

All you have to do is post a comment on this post before midnight on Wednesday July 8th, and using a random number generator, I will choose a winner. Be sure to leave a way for me to contact you.

Please note, the harmonica comes without the chain so that you can reuse one of your own (really, who needs fifty chains getting all tangled up anyway?)

Pay it Forward Giveaway

Dabbled is an amazingly inspiring blog, and here's today's post, I thought I'd give it a whirl:

Artist (and Blog friend to Dabbled) Diana Evans posted this fascinating idea on her blog, and I jumped right in... it's time to get excited and make things!

The first five (5) people to respond to this post will get something made by me.

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations so please read carefully:
1. I make no guarantees that you will like what I make. Whatcha get is whatcha get.
2. What I create will be just for you, with love.
3. It’ll be done this year (2009).
4. I will not give you any clue what it’s going to be. It will be something made in the real world and not something cyber. It may be weird or beautiful. Or it may be monstrous and annoying. Heck, I might bake something for you and mail it to you. Who knows? Not you, that’s for sure!
5. I reserve the right to do something strange.
6. In return, all you need to do is post this text on your blog and make 5 things for the first 5 to respond to your blog post.
7. Send your mailing address - after I contact you. (Be sure to leave a working email!)

IMPORTANT: This offer is
null and void if I do not see you post your own blog to pay this forward. This text was used from Dot at Dabbled.

Sound like fun?

Jump in...first five :)
PS: if you see more than 5 comments, do it anyway, I must see that you're serious by posting this on your own blog!
