Cherokee Red

As a kid I dreaded the obligatory summer garage sale, replete with days of work/parting with beloved (and forgotten) items/ early, sweaty, fake mingling with people I'd never otherwise be speaking to/ never getting a cut of the meager profits.

In my adulthood, however, my penny pinching adulthood I have more than once reaped the fruits of said labor while putting in more than a few hours (but not as many as my worker-bee husband) of hosting our very own garage sales.Quite a few times this summer I've been on the receiving end of the ubiquitous good deal, and this morning was no exception. You may remember my fortuitous finds here, but what do you think about this great hutch?
Any guesses on how much she set me back?

One of my favorite things about her is the throwback to Frank Lloyd Wright's famous Cherokee Red that he used in the Zimmerman house (top photo) and has become synonymous with his designs.

When I was first exposed to this color in High School, it was so abrasive, like, in the ugly retro hope-that-never-comes-back-in-style kind of way. It now warms my heart and I can't imagine a more homey color, especially with that rich gold. How did that one-eighty happen?

I would love to know: what was your favorite garage sale find?

*Oh, and be sure to check out Papermash's giveaway.

And house hunt is...well, we've put in 3 offers now. Think 3's a charm? It was for Val!

Beauuuuutiful!!! Wish I had that kind of luck here! I don't know how anyone could part with that....

One of my favorite memories was taking a road trip to Iowa with a girlfriend one Memorial Day weekend. We stayed at a cute B&B and hit all of the wonderful road side sales and antique stores along the way. We furnished her ENTIRE bedroom in one trip, complete with painted white iron bed, side table, hutch, shelves, etc. And I found a gorgeous antique necklace that only needed to have the chain repaired, and a beautiful stained glass floor lamp.. Happy happy!

Hi darling!
I've never been to a garage sale and i wish to do it one day. My garage is full of things I've never used and it will be a good way to make some room!

Gaia, I can't believe you haven't been to a garage sale? I guess you don't really have many of them out there, but what do Italians do with their unwanted stuff?

Oh cool, what a deal!

And I don't really have any big garage sale deals. I have only ever been to one in my entire life and that was when I was about 8 and had no money to buy anything. I think I need to go g-sale hunting.

Wow - seriously fabulous piece!! I absolutely love it! Can't wait to see how it will look when you get your new house!

I"m trying to save money so I've been avoiding g*sales for a bit... but this post is making that harder to do!
