Koons Owns Kitsch

Every year I alternate teaching classical and modern art history. This year we cover the latter, and we just finished modern architecture, Dada, and Surrealism and I am on a modern art high. I got my students so excited about Dadaism that they were even talking about it in normal, outside-of-class conversations. One student is ready to sign up with Duchamp to play Dada chess.

A lot of people can't stand Dada art; Duchamp and his Readymades are all a big joke. But to him, a bottle rack was art because art is what exists in the artist's mind...if you say it's art, it is. And no art is 100% original, so where do you draw the line?

I got to see The Fountain a few years ago when I was in Israel, and seeing as how I'm not used to looking at urinals, I was surprised at the small size...and the fact that it was just sitting on the floor!

Anyway, the art nerd in me is loving this image (click to see it bigger), especially "Duchamp owns everything."

What are some of your favorite movements or artists in art history? Picasso? Monet? Botticelli?

So, would I be correct in assuming that all the names on the left are artists and all the subjects on the right have something to do with their art?
